The Sterile Processing Technician performs a level of high standards and ethical practices to prevent the risk of hospital-acquired infections (HAI’s).
Some of the responsibilities include reprocessing of surgical instrumentation for OR and ancillary units. Being a good SPD Technician requires a detail-oriented individual to ensure that all instrumentation is cleaned and sterilized or disinfected to ensure patient safety. Skills to monitor and operate cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilization equipment also accurately assemble instrument sets according to Dr. preference.
With the ever-evolving field of Sterile Processing and the increasing fear and volume of nosocomial infection cases the SPD Technician today must have a passion for excellence.
She is an Sterile Processing veteran with over 30 years of experience in Sterile Processing, and currently holds the role of Sterile Processing Manager with oversight of two (2) facilities. She has been an educator for over 12+ years. She held responsibilities of consulting manager at multiple facilities to assist and empower SPD departments to rise and achieve excellence in their workflows, productivity, and standards.
She has a passion for Sterile Processing and ensures that patients always receive the best care possible. She has worked in the field long enough to see the impact of the work that is performed by the SPD technician which is highly regulated where technical knowledge is required.
She has dedicated herself to sharing her love and knowledge for the Sterile Processing profession to equip the Sterile Processing Technician today with ever element to have a long and successful career in Sterile Processing.
